Getting website indexed

How much do you want your website to appear in search results? Do you want more organic traffic?

Well, you are in the right place.

By increasing your organic traffic from search engines, you improve your online presence and website ranking.

I have discussed submitting your sitemap to both Google and Bing in my earlier posts.

Just submitting a sitemap does not guarantee that your website would be indexed immediately. It might take a couple of weeks.

There are two options here,

  • Fold your arms and wait patiently for Google and other search engines to index your website at their own time.
  • Do something! Follow these tips to get your website indexed within 48 hours.
I personally don't like to wait too long for something, especially if there is a quicker way to get it. That way I can move on with other things.

What does it mean for your website to get indexed.

Indexing of a website has to do with the storing of web pages present within the website by search engines.

So, when a person uses certain keywords in search engines that may be unique to your site, your content will then show up at a particular position amongst your competitors.

Unless you don't care about your website showing up in search results or a spike in your daily page views. If not, getting your website indexed is the most important thing.

Why is it so important for your website to be indexed?
Obvious answer: To prove your website exists.

Let's say you have a website which you have invested time and effort to build. But not many people know of your existence not even search engine spiders, that will suck.

You already have an online presence by having a website. What you need is for your niche targeted audience to easily find your website in search results.

But wait! I'm not sure whether my website is indexed by search engines.

How to check if your website is indexed

1.     You can check by visiting: Google.com or Bing.com. Then type in "site: yourblog.com" in the search box provided. If there are results of your blog's brand name, that means your website is indexed.
2.     Also, you can login to your Google, Bing or other search engine webmaster account. Getting website indexed Then check on the index status to confirm.
If no results show up, it only means your website has not been indexed by search engine bots.

Within this content, I will be sharing with you the methods I used to get my website indexed within 48 hours.

This step-by-step procedure would work for either new or old domains which is not getting traffic from search engines.

STEP 1: Submission of sitemap

Before I go any further, the only way to get a website indexed is by submitting your sitemap to search engines.

Submission of a sitemap is one thing but getting you, web pages indexed on time is another thing.

It may take a couple of weeks for search engine bots to discover your website.

You can help them discover your website faster by following the other steps below.

STEP 2: Submission to blog directories and ping sites.

The aim is for search engines to discover your website faster.

You need to get some backlinks to help with that.

Try submitting to quality blog directories. There is a list some blog directories I have compiled that have good reputations.

Making use of ping sites can also get you under search engine bots radar.

Some high-ranking ping sites include:
1.     Ping-O-matic
2.     ImTalk website submitter
3.     Pingler
4.     Twingly
These sites will ping your website to a number of other sites, some of which will be low ranking, but this is just for your website to get noticed.

STEP 3: Individual Submission of blog post links.

This feature is available in both google and Bing webmaster tools.

You will be allowed to fetch individual web pages and request for them to be index.

How to fetch and render, using google webmaster tool.

·         Sign in to your Google search console account.
·          Then select the crawl option.
·          Under crawl, click on fetch as google.

fetch as google
  • Now add all the pages on your website, click on fetch and render.
  •  Refresh and request for indexing.

STEP 4: Internal linking

Interlinking has to do with the distribution of your links within your website.

Proper linking will ensure search engines crawl both web page and it's associated links within.

Using internal links on your website has several benefits. Let me name a few;

  • Web pages get index quicker.
  • There will be an increase in your position in search results.
  • Improves user experience.

If you write a blog post and you have other related contents the would help your readers understand the topic better. Add a link to the post with proper description of the link's content.

For example, If you are writing a post about how to start a blog.

You can create interlinks between paragraphs.

Like,

These are additional resources that your readers will appreciate, no doubt.

Another factor that you may need to consider to improve user experience is good navigation within your website.

Have a simple website design with straight forward categories and subcategories that would make sense to search bots.

STEP 5: Create social media pages with your brand name

When you start a blog, It's like starting a business. You have to be professional about everything.

It is also important to become more social to sell your content to more people.

If you don't have social media pages for your website,  create one now with your brand name.

Social media sites to create your accounts are facebook, twitter, google plus, pinterest, linkedin, you tube and so on. Creation of profiles and pages are easy.

Facebook page

After that, start sharing links that points to your website and build your followers count.

Your personal social media accounts should not be left out. Include a link back to your website in your profile and encourage friends to read and share your content.

Social signals will not only get your website indexed faster but also improve rankings in search results, plus it’s good for search engine optimization (seo).

It's a wrap

Your website will get indexed in no time if you follow these easy and simple steps. As you have learnt today, getting indexed by search engines is very important.

Another thing to note is that the more you update, the more the bots will crawl your website.

Revive your old blog posts by updating and sharing them to both increase traffic and get it indexed on time.
