Effective Ways to do Internal linking

Are you certain that you are placing internal links the right way? Do you have any clue about internal links placements? No, then this article is for you.

If you have heard of SEO for organic traffic, you will know that internal linking is an important factor to consider.

Also, when it comes down to getting all your web pages indexed, internal linking is your best bet.

What is internal linking?

This is a Link building process whereby you add different links of web pages within your website between posts and pages on your website. Forming a tree or a spider web of interconnected contents.

How many links should one add per page

The average number of links on a web page should be between 30-100, this comprises of both the internal and external links. I got  this number after comparing some links present in top websites, but it usually depends on the length of posts. So endeavour to keep you internal links close to that number. Anything beyond this might be considered too much.

How to add Internal links

  • Add the links to related pages only, that would be helpful to readers.
  • You can add links to targeted keywords of another written post.
  • You can add links in the body section of certain posts or pages.
  •  Add both new and old posts when interlinking, it is good for SEO.

Effective ways to add internal links for SEO

1) Write more Content

It's no secret that if you have enough contents on your site, you will have more contents to link back to.

That is why i always emphasise on choosing a niche for your website. This enables you to do internal linking with ease.

Having many rich and meaning content with their variety of target keywords is beneficial for proper interlinking. Meaning, there would then be many contents links to add to your new posts that use related keywords.

2) Deep Links

There are important static pages such as privacy policy, contact us, disclaimer, terms of service pages that you do not need to link back to. Only when necessary, because these pages are already in your websites home page navigation menu section.

It is better to link to pages or posts deep within the structure or your website.

3) Anchor text

The use of anchor texts is the best way to do internal linking. When your website is crawled, search engine take into account of the words or phrases that linked back to different pages on you site, searching for relevant keywords.

Avoid the use of words like "Read More" or "click here". When structuring your anchor text, use actionable target keywords that relates to the post you are linking back to.

4) Use Dofollow Links Attributes

For SEO purposes, use dofollow links attributes for the following reasons.

  • To increase the visibility of all your web pages.
  • To increase Link juice.
  • To force search engines to crawl pages on your website to get them indexed faster.

5) Don't over do it

Now that you have gotten the concept of internal linking, you may be tempted to go overboard. Yes, you have to resist that urge.

You don't want your posts looking like this.

wrong internal linking

Depending on the length of your content, scatter your links at different sections. And maintain the number of links to about 30-100.

Do you have a lot of contents already present on your site, and you don't know how to find all the contents related to specific keywords. Use google to find all of them, type in website:www.your-blog.com"Keyword".

Bonus Tip: If you have a specific content on your website doing better than the rest. The idea would be to add links to web pages on that particular content page, so they would get some of the link juice too.

Little Tips That Make a Difference

Adding internal links to your new or old posts isn't something that you spend your whole day doing.

You shouldn't let it distract you. Go ahead and completely finish writing all the words to your content before you add links to target words in the article. Edit some words or phrases if need be. Simple as that.

Now it's your turn to comment your questions or suggestions in the comments section. Feed backs are always welcome in that section.

    1. That's a very important point. Do not deceive people into clicking on links present on your site by sending false leads or not properly describing link's destination.
